1.     RAY-M’S PROFILE

Ray Martonoso who is well-known as Ray-M is a musician with a strong talent in music. His totality in music brings him to be a musician with a high technical skill in mastering many musical instruments. At first, he played guitar, then because of his tenacity he is able to play well almost all musical instruments; he shows an above average skill in playing those instruments. More than that, Ray-M has a total skill in music. Some of the songs he created have made some Indonesian musicians interested in them. His experience as a music teacher enriches him in musical theory. It shows by his frequency in arranging music for other people’s music performance. This experience has led Ray-M to be a composer as well as a music director.

Looking at Ray-M’s skill to master almost all musical instruments, there is a need to record his talent to inspire other musicians. Therefore, we want to record his name at Indonesian Record Museum as a musician who can play 18 musical instruments in turns and simultaneously, for a song he created and arranged by himself for a musical concert performance.

Ray Martosono or Ray-M was born in Bandung on June 2, 1986. He is the first son of Mrs. Lenny Setiawati and Mr. Hans Martonsono. His talent in music is derived from his father who is a lecturer, mentor and rector of STT Anugerah. His father also has produced some songs.

A brother of Christofan Alexander Martosono, was born under the name of Heriyanto Alexander Martosono and Yanto is his nickname. He has an ambition to be an outstanding football player, but wherever he went he always has a ball and a guitar or keyboard on his back.

During his study, from kindergarten until high school, Ray-M’s life was always for sport and music. Having an incident, he finally focuses on music only which is already done since he was still a child until now.  After graduating from Graphic Design ITHB, Ray-M decided to stay in Yogya so he can focus more in music. While in Yogya, he also learned piano from Mrs. Rossa, from USA. And in 2009, he went around some countries in Asia and comes back to Bandung. This musician, who once was trained by Bambang Nugroho and Yahya from Vence Music School, finally held more concerts and workshops, either in Indonesia or abroad.

In 2009 he has his debut as a professional musician with International Jazz Festival. In the same year, Ray-M did his performance in Ngayogjazz Festival. He also had an oppportunity to make an album sponsored by Djaduk Ferianto. In 2010 he had a chance to perform in International Jazz festival at many countries. At the end of 2011, he came back to Indonesia, and through the East Project, Ray-M won the first champion of Axis Java Jazz in the east Java province. In the national level, he becomes a champion. In 2012, he also performed in Ambon Jazz Festival, and many festival in Indonesia through many countries. In 2012, he prepared more than nine albums between his activities to do performance and master-class workshops in several places, either in Indonesia or abroad. Several months ago, he launched an album ‘Just Only You’ feat Livy Laurens, done in Yogyakarta.

His spirit to play music is always on fire, especially after having a chance to talk with George Benson, one of his idols. Some of world level-musicians who once had a collaboration with him are Michael Paolo, a saxophonist Al Jarreau, Maurice Brown, a winner of Miles Davis Trumpeter Competition, Christy, a bassist Stevie Wonder, Greg Lyon, a saxophonist Bill Cobham and Hendrik Maurkens from Charlie Byrd.

2. MURI CONCERT

MURI Ray-M Concert is a musical concert performance of jazz style, a collaboration with some high qualified musicians. The concert performed some songs of his own creation and also songs from other musicians which once were popular in the community. The songs are rearranged, so they taste fresher. In the middle of the concert, Ray-M sang a song of his own, with the title ‘One Shoot. To sing this song, he played eighteen musical instruments, namely:

j.        Djimbe (a kind of percussion)

o.      ‘Kalimba’

p.      Happy drum

q.      Sitar

r.       Recorder

Ray-M also plays some other musical instruments, they are: organ, trombone, clarinet, ‘ukulele’, ‘angklung’, accordion, mandolin, didgeridoos, rain stick, thunder, guiro, etc. This extraordinary thing will be recorded as a MURI Record under a category of  “Ray-M is a musician playing eighteen musical instruments in a song created by himself for a musical concert performance”. Recording at MURI record is a good thing to enjoy and at the same time it becomes a beautifully well-carved history in an eternal record of Indonesian record museum. The MURI Concert was held on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 18.00 – 21.00 Western Indonesian Time, at FGF Floor Block 1, BTC Fashion Mall, Dr. Junjunan Street, Bandung.

3. GUINESS WORLD RECORD CONCERT

After recording himself as a champion of MURI record, Ray-M will record himself as the world record champion through an Indonesian Festival in Esplanade, Singapore on december 16, 2017. The talent God gives to Ray-M as a music player who can play almost all musical instruments is very useful when he creates songs, arranges music, or arranges songs. Even, the talent is also very useful when he becomes a music director. With this extraordinary talent, let his works be dedicated to human beings on this planet earth and also to the improvement of world civilization.
